September photography competition results

Jon Hegarty

September is a month of incredible change within the natural world as summer slowly transforms into autumn. With this seasonal transformation the landscapes around us morph into a world of crisp fallen leaves, bright orange vistas and fabulous fungi.

This month's competition theme was local landscapes and we received a magnificent selection of images, which illustrated the diverse beauty present in our region and captured some of our most recognisable landmarks in all their natural splendour.

After receiving such an amazing array of photos, we had an extremely difficult decision to make to choose a winner. However, after much deliberation Jon Hegarty’s ‘Buttercups at Dawn’, was selected as the winner of this month's competition.

Buttercups at Dawn

Jon Hegarty

Our judge specifically selected this image not only for its sheer beauty and the impressive level of skill required to capture it, but also because it highlights one of our often-overlooked landscapes. This photograph draws attention to the immense beauty that can be found in our urban areas and in particular the wonderful Rimrose Valley in Liverpool.

Weets Trig Sunset

Heather Sheldrick

In second place is Heather Sheldrick’s ‘Weets Trig Sunset’, our judge noted ‘this image illustrates the imposing nature of one of our most recognisable local landscapes. The ability to effectively encapsulate the dramatic landscape that is the Forest of Bowland, in an image which evokes such an emotional response is truly special.

Sunset over Hurstwood Reservoir

Karen Howorth

Finally in third place is Karen Howorth’s ‘Sunset over Hurstwood Reservoir’, our judge commented ‘the rugged North Lancashire landscape dappled in early evening sunlight depicts a picture-perfect image of one of our region's most picturesque and scenic areas.’

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
