November photography competition results

Autumn is a period of monumental change within the natural world as we witness a transformation in all the plant life around us. This wonderful season provides us with one final burst of glorious colour before the bleak winter months set in.

This month we received a splendid selection of images all under the theme of ‘Shades of Autumn’. We are delighted that so many people continue to get involved with our photography competition, and in turn highlight some of the amazing wildlife and wild spaces in our region.

After much deliberation Paul Hunt was selected as the winner of this month's competition.

Long eared owl flying through a tunnel of autumn trees

Paul Hunt

Our judge selected this image for its ‘eye-catching quality and ability to illustrate the immense beauty of this long-eared owl. Additionally, the photo manages to perfectly address this month's theme, as this majestic creature is framed by a rich tapestry of autumn colours. The timing and skill required to capture this photograph is astonishing, to observe an owl in full flight is quite an achievement, let alone photograph one with such detail and precision, congratulations Paul!’

Roe deer peeping through autumnal woodland

Lucie May Anyon

In second place is Lucie May Anyon, our judged loved the characterful nature of this image, they proclaimed ‘this roe deer peeping through the sun dappled autumn woodland is picture perfect, and possesses an endearing quality which makes you just want to keep on looking.’

Bold Venture Park

Joanne Carey

Finally, in third place is Joanne Carey, our judge stated ‘throughout autumn many of the leaves around us quickly transform into a diverse palette of colour, encompassing everything from burnt orange to vivid red. This image taken by Joanne captures the rich variety of colour present during autumn and the reflections splashed across the water adds to its stunning quality.’

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
