March photography competition results

Mark Harder

March’s photography competition theme was ‘Signs of Spring’, and we received a delightful array of uplifting images, which demonstrated the wondrous nature of this season.

The images received this month were extremely satisfying, as they purposefully represented this wonderful time of year. From picturesque catkins and blossom, to heartwarming new born ducklings, this month’s entries certainly delivered a much-needed moment of joy. We are delighted that so many people continue to enter our photography competition, and share their favourite nature moments.

Once again it was an extremely difficult decision to choose this month's winner, however after much deliberation Bob Hurrell’s ‘Robin Collecting Nesting Materials’ was chosen as the winner.

Robin

Bob Hurrell

Our judge was overjoyed when they viewed this image and stated that ‘this picture-perfect photo beautifully captures the resilient spirit of this delightful little robin, as its character is meaningfully displayed.'

Frog

Mark Harder

In second place is Mark Harder's ‘Frog at Brockholes’, our judge proclaimed ‘nothing embodies spring more than frogs returning to ponds. This image captures a sure sign of spring, the sight of a protective frog guarding its spawn immediately lifts the spirit of anyone lucky enough to see them, and this photo certainly generates that response from me.'

Snowdrops

Zoe Hodkinson

Finally, in third place is Zoe Hodkinson’s ‘Dew on Snowdrops’, our judge loved this photograph and stated that ‘the composition of this photo represents everything which is magical about this time of year, and symbolically conveys the changing of seasons. Moreover, the vibrant colour captured within this image makes it jump off the page.’

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
