January photography competition results

John Cobham

January’s photography competition theme was ‘A Winter’s Scene’, and the conditions present last month provided the perfect opportunity to capture some sensational images. With our competition now open to photographs taken anywhere in Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, we received a record number of truly spectacular entries.

From the Ice-covered landscape  of the West Pennine Moors to the snowcapped trees of the Forest of Bowland, we received a diverse selection of breath-taking images. We are overjoyed that so many people decided to take part in last month's photography competition, and in doing so highlighted the importance of nature in such difficult times.

Choosing this month's winner proved to be particularly difficult, however after much consideration John Cobham’s ‘A Winters Sunset on Parbold Hill’, was chosen as this month's winner.

A Winters Sunset on Parbold Hil

John Cobham

Our judge absolutely adored this photo and stated that ‘this image perfectly encapsulates this month's theme, and the detail captured within this scenic shot is monumentally impressive. The combination of the bright colourful sunset, offset against the frost tipped foliage just spells out winter.’

Winters Sky

Julie Norman

In second place is Julie Norman’s ‘Winter Sky’ taken on St Anne’s beach, our judge commented that 'the timing and precision required to capture this image is extremely impressive. The vividly bright sky and crisp reflections illustrated in this photo depict a picture-perfect winters day at the beach.'

Sunrise over Little Woolden Moss

Amie Evans

Finally, in third place is Amie Evans’ ‘Sunrise over Little Woolden Moss’, our judge stated that 'the depth of light present within this photograph is absolutely beautiful. The outstanding quality of this image, purposefully highlights the abundance of spectacular and picturesque landscapes which are readily available in our region.'

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
