March Photography Competition Results

March Photography Competition Results

Despite March being the start of a difficult time for the entire country, we had some beautiful entries in our photography competition to help keep smiles on our faces.

In March we had to make the desicion, based on Government guidelines, to close the gates to some of our nature reserve and disencourage visitors to attend during the pandemic. However, before this all began, we had some wonderful entries into our competition with the theme 'Signs of Spring'.

Our judge had a tough time choosing from the fabulous array of images, from a range of different nature reserves within the Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside region.

However, after much deliberation Dave Bennion’s ‘In Love’, taken at Wigan Flashes Nature Reserve was chosen as the winner of this month’s competition.

In love - Wigan Flashes - Dave Bennion

Our judge commented that, "The colours in this image really captured my attention. I really enjoyed the expressions on the frogs faces, as if they are really pleased spring has finally arrived. The timing required to capture this moment in nature demonstrates a high level of skill and aptitude which really deserves recognition."

Jay - Mere Sands Wood

Mike Ebdy

In second place is Mike Ebdy's Jay at Mere Sands Wood. Our judge noted that, "The skill needed to take this photograph is incredible, and to capture it just in that hovering motion, it really is a stunning picture. A masterpiece worthy of recognition."

Honey bee on Pussy Willow

Ken Hayes

Finally, in third place is Ken Hayes 'Honey Bee on Pussy Willow' taken at Brockholes Nature Reserve. Our judge enjoyed this image and stated that, "You think spring, you see bees. This is a beautiful image of a misunderstood, but vastly important insect, and really shows its true beauty away from the public perception of it being a stinging beast!"

The winner will be contacted via email with details on how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winner’s photos will be displayed within our visitor centres, for everyone to see.
