February - Photography Competition Results

One of the Marketing Officers for LWT and Brockholes. I am most at home walking through the countryside with my camera, a notebook, and my dog. From farmlife to wildlife, I love our county and the wonderful sights and sounds which surround us.

February was the month the weather was confused. From snow, to unseasonable high temperatures, it’s been a month of wonderful photograph opportunities, with species not often seen so early on in the year.

Our judge had an incredibly difficult decision to make, with an incredible 47 photographs to choose from from the subject Winter Birds.

Coming in at first place was…BLUE TIT taken by PHILIP WEBB! Our judge explained why she chose this photo as the winner.

“Such a stunning bird, on a beautiful canvas. Fresh growth in the ground, a dark winter feel, but such a still, well composed bird – this photograph just really took my breath away.”

Second place was awarded to FORMATION FLYING by DAVE BENNION!

“Notoriously fast, the Curlew is not easy to capture on the ground, never mind a whole host of them flying! This is a wonderfully well timed and well captured photograph.”

Rounding out the top three this month was ROBIN by ADAM BOLTON. Our judge really enjoyed this shot, saying:

“He’s the classic winter visitor, the robin, and I love the angle of this photograph. Showing off his beautiful red breast, with the fresh buds on the twigs, awaiting the arrival of Spring.”

The deadline for entries is midnight on 05/04/2019 and the only condition is that your photograph was taken on Brockholes nature reserve. To enter, just email tjolly@lancswt.org.uk (a maximum of three photos per person is permitted).
