Our magnificent new purpose-built hide, The Lookout, overlooks the wonderful wildlife haven of Number One Pit and is open seven days a week, offering stunning views of a variety of birds in their natural habitat.

Overlooking No 1 Pit’s island – one of the nation’s most important sites for breeding waders – this is the perfect place to see the likes of Oystercatcher, Little Ringed Plover, Great Crested Grebe and Lapwing.

During the spring, make sure you bring a pair of binoculars, as you may very well catch a glimpse of the chicks running around on the island. We recommend that you keep popping back to the Lookout throughout the seasons, as it offers a prime spot to see the reserve develop.

The Lookout also offers a great view of our Sand Martin wall, where we hope we will be welcoming new guests in future seasons. Sand Martins already visit Brockholes, and nest along the banks of the River Ribble.

Support the Lookout

We are still fundraising to help us provide interpretation boards and more furniture for our visitors and school trips to the Lookout. If you would like to help, please get in touch with Debbie Edwards at dedwards@lancswt.org.uk.

We would like to thank the Lancashire Environmental Fund for their support in funding the development of the Lookout and also the Friends of Brockholes for their continued support in fundraising for the finishing touches.
