At Brockholes we offer a variety of fantastic educational programmes, while youngsters will be able to see that Brockholes is home to a host of wildlife, as well as learning about our groundbreaking floating Visitor Village and the fascinating geological history of the site.
Conveniently located just off junction 31 of the M6 at Preston, Brockholes is perfectly placed for schools across the region.
Your school will have use of the education centre on our floating visitor village and you will have our highly-qualified Education Officers dedicated to your group throughout the day.
In addition your school can now get even closer to nature at Brockholes by booking an education session in our new purpose-built bird hide classroom, The Look Out, which overlooks No 1 Pit Lake.
As well as being one of the most important sites in the UK for breeding waders, No 1 Pit provides great views of our sand martin wall, which provides a valuable breeding habitat for when they arrive in spring. For more information on ‘The Lookout’ click here.
We offer a wide range of educational programmes that cater to children of all ages. All of our programmes are fully risk assessed and linked to The National Curriculum, The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, the Every Child Matters Framework and the 8 doorways in the Sustainable Schools Framework and Eco-Schools status. Specific programmes include ‘Life Cycles’, ‘Migration and Hibernation’, ‘Environmental Art’, ‘Geography and Geology’ and much more.

Forest School is a unique outdoor learning experience that improves children’s self-esteem, confidence and abilities. We provide an inspirational setting for Forest Schools sessions and training. Our Forest School sessions are designed and delivered by our experienced and fully qualified Education Team including our Level 3 Trained Forest Schools Practitioner.
You are more than welcome to bring your school group to Brockholes for the day and do your own thing. Here is some useful information to help you plan your visit:
Coach parking is limited. If you are planning on coming by coach, please contact us on 01772 872000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your coach/coaches in. We urge you to book your space well in advance. This is especially important for the spring and summer terms, our peak time for school visits!
If you wish to hire an indoor space for the duration of your visit for having lunch, storing equipment or teaching, please get in touch (same contact details as above) for options, availability and prices.
Our pond dipping platform is only available to schools booked in with our education team. We do not permit pond dipping anywhere else on the reserve. Likewise, our outdoor classrooms are only available to schools booked in with our education team.
Can’t get to us? Then we can come to you! Our outreach education programme is very popular and offers a wide range of programmes for those who are unable to reach Brockholes.
