October 2018 – Photography Competition Results!
07 Nov 2018
October seemed to be a loooong month, don’t you think? We’ve had all manner of weather, and thanks to these entries, seen all manner of fungi on the reserve!
Our judge had an incredibly difficult decision to make, with 52 stunning photographs to choose from from the subject Woodland Fungi.
Coming in at first place was… PIXIE’S PLACE (above) taken by JEANIE LAZENBY! Our judge explained why she chose this photo as the winner.
“Fungi is a peculiar phenomenon, but always takes me back to my childhood and being told this is where fairies are from. I love this image as not only can you see the doorway to the fairy house, but it also shows the green grass, and the orange leaves – a transition from one season to another. Brilliant. ”
Second place was awarded to WHERE DID YOU GET THAT HAT by EMMA WELLBY, one of our youngest photography competition entries to date!
“I love a good trio, and a range of focuses. For such a young girl, this is a fantastic photograph and I look forward to seeing more in the future.”
Rounding out the top three this month was CORAL MUSHROOM by MARIE TRANTUM. Our judge really enjoyed this shot, saying:
“To me, this looked like a delicate flower with its petals opening. I really like the contrast between the blush pink fungi on the dark, autumnal ground.”
Feel free to let us know what you think about the judge’s selections via either our Facebook or Twitter pages. NOVEMBER’s competition is currently open and has the theme of AUTUMN COLOURS; it is arguably the best time of year for colours so we’re expecting an abundance of warm toned photographs.
The deadline for entries is midnight on 05/12/2018 and the only condition is that your photograph was taken on Brockholes nature reserve. To enter, just email firstname.lastname@example.org (a maximum of three photos per person is permitted). More information, including the full set of rules and Terms & Conditions, can be viewed here.
