Brockholes

Brockholes Wildlife Walks

You can get so much more out of your visits to Brockholes by taking a walk round the reserve with one of our very clever and friendly volunteer walk leaders.

Let them introduce you to the network of trails around our 106 hectare reserve and show you some of the 158 species of birds spotted on the reserves ponds and meadows over the last four years. They can introduce you to a few of the wild flowers, trees and grasses flourishing at Brockholes and on an autumn day let them point out the wide variety of fungi flourishing around the woodland parts of the reserve.

Warm summer days are perfect for spotting butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies that have made their home around the lake edges. If you are lucky you might catch sight of roe deer bounding through the grasslands or brown hares in their meadow nest sites, or even tracks of the badgers that gave Brockholes its name!

There so much to see and hear about on a reserve that owes its existence to the last ice age and has felt the foot of man for two thousand years.
