February photography competition results

Ben Abbott

February’s photography competition theme was ‘Winter Birds’, and we received a delightful selection of amazing photographs from right across our region.

From the unassuming robin to the imposing buzzard and everything in between, this month saw us receive some outstanding entries representing the wonderful diversity of birdlife present in our local area. We are overjoyed that so many people decided to get involved, and in turn highlighted the importance of their local wildlife, and wild spaces.

It was a difficult decision to choose this month's winner, however after careful consideration Cory Robinson’s ‘Blue Tit by Rishton River’ took first place.

Blue tit by Rishton River

Cory Robinson

Our judge loved this image and stated that ‘the vivid colour and texture captured within this photograph is truly amazing, and highlights the intricate beauty of the remarkable blue tit’.

Kingfisher on The Leeds and Liverpool Canal

Michelle Gallagher

In second place is Michelle Gallagher’s ‘Kingfisher on The Leeds and Liverpool Canal’, our judge commented that ‘this photo captures one of our region's most delightful residents, and the kingfisher's vibrant coloration offset against the crisp white snow, creates an imposing photograph’.

Goldcrest in Clitheroe

Mark Harder

Finally in third place is Mark Harders ‘Gold Crest in Clitheroe’, our judge adored the sense of character captured within this photograph, and proclaimed that ‘the crystal-clear image of this tiny goldcrest purposefully illustrates this lovely bird’s inquisitive and cheeky character’.

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
