December photography competition results

Dave Kinder

To end the year, we asked our photography competition participants to enter their best ‘Christmas Card Wildlife’ shots, from robins perched high up in frost covered trees to roe deer frolicking upon snowcapped hills, we received an amazing selection of images.

This month's entries perfectly encapsulated our festive theme and illustrated the amazing diversity of wildlife present throughout the winter months. The ability and skill of our photography competition participants never ceases to amaze us, and this month they certainly didn’t disappoint.

After much consideration Dave Kinder was selected as the winner of December’s competition.

Robin perched upon a snow covered gate post

Dave Kinder

Our judge loved this photograph because of its ‘characterful and charming quality, this image captures one of the festive seasons favourite characters. The depiction of this robin perched upon a snow-covered fence post highlights this much-loved bird’s vibrant colour and ferocious character’

Roe deer frolicking upon snow covered hills

Craig Smith

In second place is Craig Smith, our judge stated ‘this wonderful winter scene captures the joyful spirit of Christmas and the delightful wildlife that is present all around us. This photograph of two roe deer frolicking upon the snow-covered hills of Tockholes is both charming and endearing.

Blue tits and a coal tit perched on a snow covered branch

Christine Kearns

Finally in third place is Christine Kearnes, our judge proclaimed ‘the bright colour of the blue tits and coal tit, offset against the snow-covered landscape makes this image jump off the screen. Additionally, the quality and detail displayed within this photo makes it look like a perfectly composed Christmas card scene.’

The winner will be contacted via email with details of how to redeem their £100 optics voucher prize. Additionally, all winning photos will be displayed in our visitor centres for everyone to see.
